I’m motivated by the fact that the cancer I am working on has an awful survival rate, and that needs to change. Cancers that have had more intensive research have seen massive improvements in survival rates so I hope that more research into pancreatic cancer can help patients.
I am motivated by the fact that my research can help to reduce the suffering of people and can reduce the incidence of diseases or in the least reduce progression of them in few cases. When I develop a software tool and deliver it to hospitals and get a report of the number of patients being diagnosed early with our tool, it is very fulfilling and inspiring.
That in the future, sick people who can’t afford to see a doctor or live too far away from one wouldn’t need to, as they could just use a cheap mini device to tell them what disease they have.
Then I can think “that work I did ages ago helped make that possible!”
