Your GCSEs are just a way to get you to your next stage in life, whether that’s A-levels, an apprenticeship or a job! As long as you’ve passed maths and English you’re all good 🙂
So my GCSEs let me do the A-levels I wanted, and my A-levels let me go to Uni, and Uni got me here! So, although nobody asks me about my GCSEs anymore, they still helped me get to where I am today 🙂

I completely agree with @Leah. Focus on maths and English (and a pass in some kind of science also really helps) Then choose subjects you enjoy as it is easier to work hard on those and so you’re more likely to get good grades. When I was at school, as well as maths, English and science, and a few other subjects, we had to study a language at GCSE (French/German). I chose French. At the time I hated it as I wasn’t very good* but now I am really pleased I had to do it as it turns out I can still remember quite a lot of it and I love visiting France.
* Learning/speaking a language doesn’t come naturally to me and I found it really hard but I was determined to still pass and in the end after **a lot** of revision I actually got a good grade that I am still proud of to this day (though my mum and dad are still bemused as how I got that as they heard me practising! 😂)

Well if I hadn’t done physics and mathemathematics at GCSE (well S level in scotland) I couldn’t have done it at A’level (Highers in Scotland) and it gives you a good grounding in teh basics for the next level. But to be honest I didn’t do great in my S levels. I wish I had tried harder, but in the end I got my dream job so it didn’t affect me too much.
So I agree with Leah and Hannah, but with a bit more ephamisi on physics too. -

they helped me onto get my highers (A-levels) however with each round of exams, the previous set become almost void as they are replaced by your new highest grade.
It is important for engineering to focus attention on maths, physics and other technical/ science subjects as these will form the foundation of your knowledge for the future.
I did not pass higher (A-level) english and was still accepted into engineering, i cannot analyse a poem or why it was written that way, but i can compose a technical report and explain my thoughts clearly other which is what is required for engineering (for me anyway!)
