I loved physics. When I was at school it was mostly electronics, I had a low attention span at school and this was probably one of the few subjects that held my attention.
My favourite subjects were maths and performing arts. I really enjoyed solving problems in maths, and performing arts helped me gain a lot of confidence (and also how to pretend to be confident!). My teachers, Mr Frankenburg and Mr Coffey, encouraged me to aim high and go for it 🙂
My favourite subject was technical drawing, I loved how methodical it was and using the tools to creat and understand the process. I also like maths again for this reason but it took me an extra year to pass as it just didnt click the first time around!
I was terrible at english! sat the equivalent of A Level English in Scotland (highers) and failed it twice! however it didn’t stop me from achieving what i set out to.
👩💻 🎨 Anything that involved making something e.g. art, design & technology, IT etc. I enjoyed researching a topic where the end goal was to make or build something based on that research.
For example, I really enjoyed making a 3D sculpture using three umbrellas inspired by work done by Renoir. I also loved researching the best ingredients to use to make a particular dish in home economics. One project involved classmates taste-testing 15 different types of lettuce leaf! The final meal just had three different lettuce leaves, the best three though 😂
The project that really helped me decide what to study at university was a membership database project I worked on for my mum as part of A level IT coursework. I loved designing it for her so she would actually use it (she wasn’t confident with computers). Over fifteen years later, she is still using the system I made for her!
