I still want to be working in the energy industry – there are many different jobs that i find really interesting. I’m starting with technical engineering power stations but I am also interested in business management, energy politics, energy storage research and smart energy management. So there are many different directions that my career could go in!
In 10 years time it’s likely that the large experiment I work on (JET) will be closed but the UKAEA should still be going strong! I would like to be involved in fusion research in some way, but as long as I get to play with big electrical equipment I’ll be happy.
I will definitely still be working in energy industry, but I hope by then I will be in a leadership role where I can use my technical knowledge to shape industry policies and practices to make sure the industry works together effectively, efficiently and economically to implement new and innovative ways of generating, managing and consuming gas and electricity.
Only God knows!!! I love my job, perhaps in ten years, still loving my job and great at ‘my onions’,possibly be in a principal consultant / technical director position to contribute inputs/ideas on resolving the nation’s energy challenges and publishing international technical papers on the state-of-the art technology on the world’s energy matters.
Also might venture into the business side of the energy industry.
I will still be doing research in Electrical Engineering, because I love this job. If I am lucky enough, I will be having my own research group. Also, I will be involving more with different companies as a research consultant.
