• Question: What general knowledge do you have to know before becoming an engineer?

      Honestly, you do not have to know anything specific, you just need to be willing to create or build something and then try to figure how.

      Probably, you will need to know how to make basic drawings and mathematics. But more important is to have a hobby that you like a lot, and then try to learn everything you can about your hobby. During school time some of my friends did not like to study and they only liked to play computer games, while now they are interested into programming and they develop their own games.

      No general knowledge as such but an eagerness to learn and to figure things out.

      You learn most of the basics in university and before that in school. Mathematics, physics etc. At the end of your university degree, you will have learned how to find and also teach yourself any new information/knowledge/skill.

      Nothing, I knew the definition before starting, If you’re naturally a curious person you have the brains of an engineer already.

      Advisable(although not mandatory) to have a number of the following skills;some numerical skills, eye for innovation and improvement,business IQ,resiliency,tenacity,eye for detail,good communication skills,ability to link un-obvious bits of science together and also a work etiquette.

      You learn everything you need to know when you are studying for your A-levels and degree. It is more about what you are interested in and a willingness to learn all the time. I am still learning, and I am sure some of the people further on in their careers than me would say the same.
