I’ve wanted to change jobs, but not leave engineering. Its always old to think about the future and where you want to be. Sometime that means changing jobs.

Similar to Iona, I have changed several jobs, but not leave engineering.

I’ve definitely had times in my PhD (my second degree) when I’ve thought about quitting – that’s because it’s quite a long, tough degree. But, engineering has always felt like the right choice. Some of my friends chose to do something else when they graduated in engineering (my first degree). That’s one of the great things about engineering – it gives you skills that you can apply in other jobs if you change your mind.

I often feel like quitting, and it’s not such a bad thing – there is a great podcast by freakonomics ‘the upside of quitting’:

Basically, not everything should be done, not everything is life works out the way you would hope, and if you start doing something pointless, quitting is the right thing to do!
