I think the printing press. It brought communication and the written word to everyone on a mass scale. Before that books were hand scribed and only available to the rich. The printing press meant everyone could have access to education and the news. Everyone could be informed as to what was going on. Ideas could be spread quickly.

      Making fire.
I know this is so many years ago. But imagine, if we do not know how to make a fire, we will still be eating raw/ cold food, we will be cold in winter, there won’t be the invention of many other things – like steam engines and electricity that power so many machinery.

Harnessing fire was rather pivotal, I will go with Yip!

The fact that we could heat food allowed us to extract more energy from it, which meant we could spend less time hunting and more time playing the x-box.

There was another really important trick we learned, possibly before harnessing fire, which was the invention of ‘persistence hunting’ – this was a team-work approach to hunting that evolved over 10’s of thousands of years that allowed us to exhaust animals rather than fight them (because pointy horns *really* hurt).

Some people think that this practice was key in developing our brains to be much bigger than our primate cousins – and this big brain came with loads of unexpected side effects…. such as the ability to play the x-box.
