There are a few engineers in my family – my brother, mu husband and my father-in-law. I suppose technically I’m the first engineer on my side of the family.

My Dad studied physics, and my Grandad worked in a a dockyard, so the two of them combined make an engineer!

Not in my immediate family and only one in my extended family. My uncle (my mother’s younger brother) is an engineer.

I am pretty much the only one – my parents and siblings aren’t interested in maths/science/engineering. But, my uncle was an engineer and he once took me to see his company. I wasn’t sure if it was the right thing to do but I realised it was a chance to solve cool problems and you could earn a good salary! I think it can be hard if no one close to you knows about engineering so it can be really helpful to find people to talk to about it.

I am the first but hopefully not the last 😉

My father worked as a rep (salesman) selling fertiliser for a big chemical company (Boots) and he took me to work sometimes and once when I was 6 a nice lady let me see the lab where they made some medicines and tablets, they had amazing machines and a lab and a big computer the size of a car (like in movies from the 70’s it had big tape spools rotating slowly).

It really stuck with me, all the shiny beakers and lab coats 🙂
