For me, my third year at university was most challenging – we had these courses which contained strange new concepts – we had this one called ‘transport phenomena’ – the name enough is enough to tranquilise you – the lecturer made the mistake of failing to convince us at the start of the year that it would be useful and interesting – which made studying hard and concentrating on big fancy equations impossible.
Sadly, it turns out the subject itself actually is fascinating and useful, but I really only understood that fully about 10 years later – when I was motivated by the need to solve a real-world problem!
An exam in my last year engineering degree. The subject is operations research (advanced). The exam was so hard that after 3 hours, none of us in the class have finished the exam. The lecturer gave us as much time as we needed, and I completed the exam just under 4 hours.
