Yes, I have been mostly working from home for the last year instead of in the office/lab. For a few months, the rest of my team was also put on furlough so it was also just me in the team for a period of time.
My basic work plans have not been affected because most of the work I do is computer based, and so I can do my work from home. So due to the pandemic I have been working from home for the last year. However, some of my work plans that involved travelling to other research institutions have not been possible. This does not affect my everyday work directly, but it means that I have to delay some of the plans I had for expanding my research.
My workload is a bit more now as I’m having to catch up for the first six months of the pandemic where I couldn’t go into labs at all. Although I did keep busy during that time working on papers, lecture content and volunteering with making hand sanitiser for the NHS. I’m now able to go in to work to use the labs but all office work has to be done from home which makes things awkard as I normally switch between the two while I’m waiting for samples to cure or for the oven to heat up.
Not really! I already had a laptop and things to allow me to work from home and the industry I work in (energy) was not affected by the pandemic. We still need electricity!
