My Work
I construct and investigate hydraulic models of sewer systems. I use computer and mapping software to investigate flood risk and flood mechanisms, ensuring that the sewer systems are fit for purpose and suitable for the future.

Short answer: I use computers to design sewers so that the dirty waste water we produce goes to the correct place to get treated and no nasty stuff can block or burst pipes causing flooding, or come back up drains making a mess and polluting the environment.
Long Answer: I construct and investigate hydraulic models of sewer systems. I use computer and mapping software to understand the sewer performance and investigate flood risk and flood mechanisms.
-
My Typical Day: I work in an office and build and investigate computer models of sewer systems. I test out solutions in the model to make the sewer performance better and stop flooding from occurring.

What I'd do with the money
Inspire and provide further opportunities to learn about engineering and create a board game and puzzles to take to schools and events to learn about sewer systems and protecting the environment.

Continue supporting the outreach engagement activities I am involved in – including creating a cartoon animation that can be shown in schools and events.
This would be an interactive animation where the viewer would follow the animation learning about the sewer and drainage systems, they answer questions throughout it, understanding what consequences occur in a place with and without sewers and clean water.
