A lot of companies came to visit my university to advertise themselves. A lot of these companies were petrochemical companies which didn’t interest me. When Air Products came to do a presentation my initial thought was that they were based in an area where I had lots of cousins, and near London which seemed exciting! I did some research online and thought it looked like an interesting and unusual job to do so I applied to their graduate scheme. I was invited for an interview and then onto their assessment centre (where they make the final decisions) – while there I really liked the people there and it felt like a really nice environment to work in, so I was extremely happy when I got a phone call on the train ride home offering me a job.
After college I went to Manchester University to start a Geography degree but i didn’t really get on with university life. I had 5 hours of lectures a week and I just thought it was a waste of my time tbh. So I dropped out of university and got a job at the company where I worked over the summer holidays at school. I started in the january and by September I had completed two courses at college (completed at night) and had started my BEng at UCLAN (part time). I’m a real advocate of earning while you’re learning, I have got a First Class degree at the same time as gaining work experience which employers really like. Plus I didn’t have to pay for my degree or rack up student loans!!
