In my current job i don’t design/make any electronic hardware. But the knowledge of how electronic circuits and/or hardware work form the basis of what i do.
To give a simple example, when designing a communication link to a particular country or region, we consider the power of the signal send from the ground station to the satellite, amplification on the satellite and receiving capacity of the antenna on the ground at the receiving end. There are different technologies among amplifiers – each with their own pros and cons – and while designing a circuit and/or proposing a commercial solution and/or reviewing a solution proposed by someone else, it is important to know the basics to make sure the right components have been used, the interconnections make sense and if not, ask the right questions.
