Hello! I’m not quite sure what you question means – do you mean how long did it take to become an engineer?
If so then here is my path to engineering. I did A-levels (Maths, Physics and Chemistry), then took a year out before heading to university. My degree in Engineering took 4 years. When I graduated I went straight into an engineering job, so I guess this is when I started being an engineer. The longer I worked, the more responsibility I took on. I hope this answers your question.
How long did it take to become an engineer? Much like Helen I studied Maths, Physics and Chemistry at A-level and then went to university to study astrophysics, (you couldn’t study actual rocket science back then), but switched after a year as I didn’t like the course and did forensic science. Then I left university completely and took a couple of year out before going back and doing a 4-year master of engineering programme. After that I started the job/doctorate I’m doing now and have been for the last 3 and half years. Part of the fun of engineering is that we are constantly learning new skills though. I think it took a year after I started this job for me to really start to feel confident enough to be able to say ‘I’m an engineer’!
