• Question: what is your favorite invention and why

      That is a very tricky question – there are so many things! Sticking to the Satellite field, I am going to vote for the Apollo space programme. The programme that took people to the moon – something that every single human can relate to, something that makes us all realise how small we are compared to the universe and made the exploration of our solar system seem possible.

      There’s too many to choose from! The last 200 or so years have seen such a dramatic shift in the way the world works it’s hard to pick just one! Fundamentally it could be harnessing the power or electricity or modern medicines, transportation methods that have made the world more accessible, the internet…….it’s a very long list! Sticking with the space theme though I’m gonna have to go with the bipropellant rocket engine as it has been the key tool our expansion into and understanding of the universe around us. Tough question!

      I think the latest one that I’m looking forward to being widely available are autonomous vehicles (self-driving cars). GIS technology, GPS, satellites will play a crucial part in it.

      I don’t know that I have a favorite invention but there are many I like very much. The car for instance is an invention I like very much as its a great way to travel almost anywhere you want and it gets me to and from work everyday too. Like many inventions it has a bad side too as it causes pollution and emits green house gases. However this is not really the fault of the car itself but the internal combustion engine that powers it. So enter another great invention, the electric motor. Electric motors are everywhere from tooth brushes to trains and just about everywhere in between. Electric motors go about their work so silently that we don’t even notice them. So perhaps I do have a favorite invention after all, the electric motor.
