My contracted hours are 9 – 5 but the reality is hospitals don’t really work like that (despite what the Health Minister might say) and I very often stay later if required.
It is what it is and as long as I’m home for my children’s bed time story I don’t let it bother me too much.
I work about 8 hours every day but that depends on any deadlines or if I’m enjoying something a lot. Then I’m happy to stay later to continue working. The office is more peaceful later in the day so I like it!
I try not to take it home if I can help it so I keep a healthy work/life balance.
My typical day is from 8.30am to 5.30pm. However, we work in a pleasant and relaxing environment so I am not chained to my desk or laboratory bench for all of that time. Some weeks I will work less. Some weeks, like next week, I will work more. The variety keeps it exciting.
