There is sometimes a bit of unhelpful politics between the various NHS organisations I work with, which can prevent the separate centres working together effectively. If that could be removed, it would be easier to run some of my projects.
I would make equipment cheaper. Often we have to make a choice between doing something exciting or not based on how much the experimental kit costs. That is a fact of life though. Somebody, somewhere needs that money to build more equipment and to live on as well.
Lots of the kit that we use is very expensive though. If we could buy it more cheaply we would be able to put it to good use. Motors can cost several hundred pounds each, as an example.
We rely so much on the internet from everything to saving work, accessing journals and using our software. If the internet goes down we can lose a lot of work we had spent ages on.
I would like to change that so we have an offline back-up when the internet cuts off so that we don’t lose our work especially when working on simulations which take hours to do.
If I could I’d like to come up with a solution to remove radioactive exposure with certain types of imaging. This means they could be used more readily rather than only when absolutely necessary.
Of course people have been trying to do this for decades.
