If I’m lucky enough to win, I’ll get started on developing a working heart model for demonstrations at schools and exhibitions.
Either way if I win or not, I’ll continue working on my lectures, writing for journals, valve modelling and small exciting projects I have that will start soon.
I am currently working as a researcher but I would like to be a lecturer at a university. That means doing teaching and research. After the competition is over I will try to be successful in that career.
If I am successful in getting the kind of job I would like, I will hopefully teach Mechanical Engineering and continue research in the Medical Engineering area.
Whatever happens with this, I hope I can play at least a small part in inspiring new generations of engineers. I have book chapters to write, a long list of publications I need to get on with, a few interesting cases to work on, four projects to manage and a business to develop in partnership with the NHS and industry. I’ve also got marking to assist with from undergrad lecturing. I’m certainly not going to be bored.
I am currently doing my research on hand biomechanics. My plan is to continue my research in this area, present at different conferences and write for journals.
