• Question: What would you consider to be your greatest success in using your skills to solve an engineering problem?

      Hi Dills, I really enjoy computer modelling to solve engineering problems and can spend a lot of time making sure the model is working properly. I would say my biggest success so far is using this skill to write a code for the design of a heart valve.

      Designing something like a heart valve using a computer model can avoid wasting a lot of money making so many parts. You can make so many design changes and test them on a computer first to prove they work. Once you’re happy with the design, you can 3D print it to have an actual part in your hands!

    Being able to analyse a surgical problem and together with a surgeon, design a solution that helps them to undertake their complex procedure faster and more accurately. The greatest success is in having successful knowledge outside my area of expertise, combining that with what I do know a lot about and working with fellow engineers to fabricate a solution.
