When I left school, I wasn’t sure which way into engineering was best for me. I did well in my GCSEs, and the school encouraged me to go to 6th form to study A levels. After one year of 6th form, I realised it wasn’t for me.

I applied to an apprenticeship training company who helped me look for a role. They asked about my favourite subjects and what kind of role I wanted (welding, machining, inspection, design, electrical etc.).Eventually, the company helped me secure a design role. This was easily the best decision I ever made throughout my career. I would encourage anyone who is interested in engineering to do a little research before assuming A-levels and University is the best route for you. There are many different types of engineering, try to find what interests you.

I received a level 2,3 and 4 In mechanical engineering while getting paid and learning new skills. After my apprenticeship, I completed my degree in Mechanical Engineering at university and now im studying my master’s degree In Marine Technology.

      I hope this helps
