I guess I always liked to understand how things work, why and how to improve them. I used to play with Lego and Meccano as a kid – once, I spent several days trying to build a perpetual motion machine – a machine that would never stop once you set it into motion. Of course, I didn’t realise at the time, but many engineers had tried this is the past and failed due to the laws of thermodynamics… Anyway, I must have found out about engineering as a career at school when I was about 13 years old. It sounded like the perfect job to combine my interests and what I was good at. I was also a big fan of science-fiction, space exploration and so on – so I thought working in aerospace would be great. When I finished school, I went straight into aeronautical engineering and I haven’t regretted it 🙂 I’m still learning new things every day and the work I do is right at the front-edge of technology.
