My day can vary quite a lot depending on where we are in the development life cycle. If we are in the development phase, which tends to be my busiest period, I am investigating, designing, developing and testing solutions to requirements. During the testing phase I am typically investigating bugs and problems and then developing solutions.
However, my day can also consist of meetings, reviewing internal documents, writing documentation and reports, performing internal audits and training (both receiving and presenting).

When I was at school I used to ask ‘Why?’ a lot. Sometimes I wasn’t always satisfied with the answers I got. Such as why do I need to remember the quadratic equation? why do I need to know about trigonometry? It wasn’t until I went to university that most of the topics I had studied at school and college were used in conjunction with each other and their uses in the real world became obvious. Therefore, I would invest the money in equipment to demonstrate to student how the theory you are studying can be used to solve real world problems.

How would you describe yourself in 3 words?
Happy, Motivated and team player
What's the best thing you've done in your career?
Travelling to different countries and experiencing their cultures has been one of the highlights of my career. However, to develop a software solution and then see it being used and a critical part of a ship’s operation, is massively rewarding.
What did you want to be after you left school?
Wasn’t sure…. something technical (I enjoyed music and anything related to computers and technology)
Were you ever in trouble at school?
Err….no comment. (Nothing serious)
If you weren't doing this job, what would you choose instead?
Pilot
Who is your favourite singer or band?
Bruno Mars
What's your favourite food?
Mexican (Fajitas, Chilli etc..)
What is the most fun thing you've done?
Flew an aeroplane around Bristol… and over my house!
Tell us a joke.
How many programmers does it take to change a light bulb……… none, that’s a hardware problem!
