Hi, The next phase in my work is the use of virtual reality to help plan and install the works. This would involve the internet and Google glasses so I could do my job not even being there! Now that is cool and involves engineers in the telecom/computer business to do their bit but we are driving it.

Yes, but it would be much more difficult.

The internet can be used to communicate with other engineers and to find manuals and information quickly. However, the tall ships that I work on do not have internet when they sail, so we learn to be very self sufficient. We still have the marine radio for communication and we carry lots of manuals onboard.

I could still do all my simulations and calculations but I would struggle not having any emails so it would be difficult to keep up with what else is going on in the project!

It would be very difficult! I reply on emails a lot and using the internet to look up information or to search for scientific papers, I would be a bit lost without it.
