My best engineering adventure was working in Spain. I spent six weeks there working in the desert and I used solar light to treat water. It’s not sunny enough to do this in the UK unfortunately!
As an engineer, it was working in Antarctica. We sailed a ship full of people down to the Western Peninsula where we were able to transfer everyone onto a remote island covered with penguins (including a number of people in wheelchairs). This was the end of a long project to prepare the ship for sailing in these waters- it took a lot of work to make sure that the hull was strong enough, that the boilers were good enough and that all the piping throughout the ship was insulated form the cold. We also had to do extra disaster management training too!
