That’s a really good question. Nothing worth achieving is easy.
I found the academics at the beginning of my career difficult, but with effort and determination I passed my exams and got onto the “fun” stuff.
The hardest time though was during my apprenticeship in the Royal Navy war was declared in Kuwait and the ship I was serving on was deployed to the Northern Arabian Gulf… It was frightening and very uncomfortable and I was also trying to complete my studies. It made me stronger as a person though and not much since has scared me.
The easiest thing is getting up everyday knowing that I have to go to a job I love.
I basically just agree with what Tom said – nothing worth doing in life is easy and you will have to work hard if you want to reach your goals, whatever they are.
There are many careers that you could do that are easier than being an engineer but there are very few that are as satisfying or rewarding.
Tom’s & Chris are right. Nothing worth having is easy.
I found the course work at Uni difficult, especially writing a dissertation whereas exams were always what I found a little easier.
Changing people’s stereotypical view was my favourite part though, when I walked into my first Uni lecture and College classroom I think people thought I had got the wrong rooms. They learnt quickly that I was just like all of them though ( maybe even a bit better than them 🙂 )
I think that whatever you choose to be, you have to work hard just make sure that what you’re doing is something you enjoy so that the hard work will be worth it.
I didn’t particularly enjoy the exams at Uni but I enjoyed the practicals, building models and testing them- my favorite project was building a signal jammer and actually shutting down every body’s signal in the room!
