Smart devices are taking over the world! Most people have more than one smart device- a smart phone, tablet, smart band or watch. Apart from these common devices, virtual reality and the internet of things (where your home devices are smart) and self driving cars are becoming our new normal.
All these devices work on specific frequencies on the radio frequency spectrum under 6 GHz. With more devices and more people getting connected, what this means is that this bands becomes congested leading to slower services and more failed connections.
To deal with this problem, researchers like me are investigating propagation at millimeter wave frequencies which range from 6 GHz to 300 GHz, this will open up the spectrum and that will mean faster speeds and more bandwidth for everyone.
Imagine downloading a HD video in under a second, that’s what transmission at millimeter wave frequencies could do.

My Typical Day: I spend most of my time in the office writing codes to formulate transmission at millimeter wave frequencies

I spend most of my time in the office writing codes to formulate transmission at millimeter wave frequencies. Sometimes, I attend seminars and conferences to see what the demand is so that my work is relevant to practical needs. I also do some teaching at tutorials and lab demonstrations .

What I'd do with the money
I’ll donate it to enable more SCI-FUN school and town visits because I believe that science is fun

I already volunteer with SCI-FUN, so I’ll donate the money to enable that more school visits are possible so that every one can see that science and engineering can be fun as vital part of our every day life. Here is a picture of me at one of the school visits explaining the Coanda effect explaining how planes fly!
