I’ve been to lots of exciting places all around the world; I’ve loved exploring Venice, Agadir in Morocco, Barcelona and loads of interesting locations abroad; but the most fun I had exploring was much closer to home! It was Schraesdon Fort in a place called Anthony in Cornwall. This huge Napoleonic structure, which is closed to the public, was built to protect the river Lynher and is now used for military training, when I used to train new Royal Navy recruits at HMS Raleigh we used the fort for their final exercise. It was vast, had 3 levels above ground as it was build down the side of a hill and 2 sets of underground tunnels. I absolutely LOVED exploring this place and, in time, knew it all so well I could get around the tunnels with out the aid of a torch… which was great for 2 things: 1. seeing and feeling the local bats flying inches above my head as I walked down the dark tunnels; 2. scaring the daylights out of the recruits as I loomed out of the dark. So exciting and so much fun!
I lived and worked in Rome for 6 months and loved exploring around the city there. I went to Mexico last year and loved it – there was so much to do and see there, i loved swimming through underwater caves and zipwiring through jungles.
I like to try and travel to different places whenever I have time off. (All of my money gets spent on this)
I am extremely lucky to say that this is a hard question for me as I have lived a very well-travelled life since I was a child.
The experience that first springs to my mind was when I went scuba diving at midnight when I was 15. It was pitch black, you almost couldn’t tell what was up or down. At night all the corals open up and reveal their true bright colours. We also found sharks and turtles resting on some shelves in the reef. The most AMAZING thing that blew my mind though was that the water became filled with tiny shrimp and jelly fish that were pulsing light of different colours. It was a crazy beautiful technicolor fireworks display happening all around me – it was one of the coolest moments of my life and I will never forget it.
The most exciting place I’ve explored so far is Paris. There’s lots of places to see and go. The city also has a different look at night. I absolutely loved visiting .
