When I was a kid, I was always interested in how things worked. I got into trouble for breaking up my toys to find out why they sang or spoke! And in high school, my favourite subjects where physics and maths. That’s why I choose to become an engineer and I’m glad I did!
I studied maths, physics and art at A level. I created sculptures at A level that were as big as a buss and I wanted to continue designing and building larger things.
I remember getting my first technical lego set when I was 6, it was a tractor with working steering and a rear cog that turned with the rear axles to drive a lego thresher and a lego muck spreader… I was hooked! This got me into trying to find out how stuff worked and used to take things apart to learn about them. I was not always very good at rebuilding them… I never found all the pieces of the spring wound alarm clock after it exploded in my hands… but I often found new and interesting things to do with the various parts left over 🙂
I used to love Knex and lego, I wanted to build the biggest and most complicated things I could out of them. I also wanted to understand how things worked. I rememebr when I saved up some money to buy a “200 in 1 Electronic Projects Lab Kit” whre you could wire it up and make it into a radio, I found it fascinating.
I play guitar, write songs and I’m writing a book of funny (mostly true) funny stories. I’ve collected a big pile of drift wood over the last few years from the beach next to my office… I’m planning on building some sculptures with it.
