I didn’t really know I wanted to be an engineer when I was younger. I wanted to be a scientist with lots of bubbling vials of green and blue liquid and a laboratory! I think when I started my degree I had very little knowledge of what a job in engineering would be like and that’s why I think events like this are important because how can we encourage students to take up a career in engineering if they don’t know what it’s about!

If you do think you would like to work in engineering a lot of companies like mine do work experience placements so try to find one and learn a bit more! .

I think it’s even better than I thought! I always wanted to be an engineer, but my job allows me lots of travel too.
Although there is a more paperwork than I thought there would be ;-|

Good question – if I’m honest my job consists of a LOT less Engineering that I thought it would (when I say ‘engineering’ I mean the time I’m actually at my desk designing things/doing calculations etc.). There are lots of other things like meetings, report, going to conferences etc. BUT what this means is that my job has lots of variety in the things I do making it more stimulating that I thought it would be!
