I achieved straight A’s in the my A-levels. But that is not enough, some universities don’t think that your grades is all that you have to offer. If you are involved in other extra curricular activities (volunteering, sports, computer programming etc.) that would be a big plus. But remember, to be an engineer you have to be good in Maths and Physics!

I got As at A level and then a first class degree from Bath Uni. That said the least you could get away with and still have a chance of getting a job is probably Bs and Cs in your GCSEs, then something like 3 B’s at A level (maths physics and one other) and then a 2:1 at university (although your A levels will dictate which university you can go to, better A levels = better university).

Obviously the better your grades the more you’ll stand out. And as Samer says, extra curricular stuff is good…!

You need to have maths, and physics is quite useful. As Ben and Samer have mentioned, doing things outside of school is important too. Most engineers also have to deal with other parts of a job, such as budgets (getting all of the costs to balance), scheduling (making sure things happen on time) and dealing with suppliers and customers.
