      As a Mechanical Engineer my job is all about designing equipment. Some interesting ones are:

      Designing a beam profile monitor – a scientist gave me a piece of equipment that can measure the profile of our particle beam. I had to design a vacuum vessel to house it in, and a system that would rotate the equipment through 90 degrees.

      Designing an accelerating cavity – so the cavity is called a ‘Debuncher’. it’s a meter diameter and half a meter long tube that’s copped plated and has accelerating equipment inside.
