I’ve always got a tape measure in my bag, it’s really useful when measuring up on site. Also a torch for looking into dark ceilings and basements. Some specialist equipment we have is a device for measuring the amount of light on a desk or floor, we use this to check we have put enough lights in a building.

We use computers a lot to model designs and draw up plans, I spend 70% of my time at a computer.

Some PCs for designing detectors and control systems. Some expensive test equipment. And a few screwdrivers.

Multimeters, soldering iron, oscilloscope, signal generator, power supply, oh wait snap!
Also logic analyzer, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer (basically big white boxes of electronic stuff).

Computers, breadboard, vacuum chamber, liquid nitrogen,

and all the usual suspects: spanners, socket wrench and screwdrivers.

And most important of all when soldering small things: tweezers. Never underestimate the importance of a good pair of tweezers
