At school maths and physics were probably my best subjects, and of all the jobs you could do which maths and physics lend themselves to mechanical engineering seemed the most interesting choice.

What’s good about my job specifically is that I have a lot of creating input into my designs, and I’m in charge of managing the whole process of design, manufacture, testing etc. (i.e. I have a lot of responsibility).

Generally speaking engineering is reasonably well paid and I guess it’s kind of ‘respectable’ i.e. people seem to be impressed when you tell them what you do…!

I became an Electrical engineer because I really enjoyed electronics at school. I was also into maths and physics which is a big help. Science is interesting because you get to learn about the world around you but engineering is better because you get to use science to make awesome stuff be it buildings, cars, computers, or huge machines.

My job is never boring because I get to work on such a large range of projects. I’d hate to do the same thing every day. It’s also really good to be able to see your design built and be able to tell people you helped build that new skyscraper or supermarket!

My job has lots of opportunities for networking which can be quite good fun. You get to go to a nice party to meet people who also work in construction and see if you can get any new projects from them.
