I didn’t know that this was what I wanted to do for a while. Even though I knew I wanted to be an engineer from a relatively young age, I didn’t know I wanted to do research and I didn’t know I wanted to work with prosthetic limbs. But, I really love the research way of life and using my engineering skills to help amputees. This is definitely not the path of high pay when it comes to engineering careers, many engineering graduates are on much higher salaries than I am. From my perspective, as long as I have enough money to live, I would much rather be doing something that I really love than try and find a job that pays more that I don’t enjoy.
I didn’t choose to do engineering because of the pay. now, this is not 100% true for everyone, but in my opinion in the UK, engineering is not the highest paid field (unfortunately), as I said there are exceptions, but in average the salary of an engineer is between £30-£50k. It depends what you mean by high pay. I chose to be an engineer because everything around us has been built by engineers. I wanted to be one of those engineers to help the world and improve our lives, and I truly enjoyed the skills that are required to be an engineer. so I did it! 🙂 sometimes money is not the deciding factor. Imagine getting loads of money to do a job that you hate… that’s not very appealing to me 🙂 I hope this answers your question
