Yes! As long as you are willing to put in the time to solve the research question you are trying to answer, doing a PhD is great. You learn so much and you achieve things that you probably never thought possible. A PhD is all about pushing the boundaries of what already exists. You need to be a very curious person, like to question things and like to work hard to find the solution. If you are, it is such a satisfying and stimulating job. Every day is always at least slightly, if not very, different to the next.
Also I get to make things….you go from a sketch on a pad of paper, through CAD (Computer aided design) to machining, laser cutting, 3d printing, welding….and lots more
I do recommend it, only if are interested in engineering. It’s very interesting, fun, loads of new exciting things, but at the same time that brings loads of challenges, you need to keep working on yourself to get better at dealing with stress, because it can be stressful (like many other things in life). if you go ahead and do a Doctorate, you will be the expert in that niche. You are going to be the one that knows the most about it, which is very attractive to some companies so they would want to employ you and pay a lot for it… but this doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to have a doctorate to be a successful engineer and make crazy new things… I would recommend engineering 100% but only if you like it. at the end of the day, you have to choose what you the most. there are many things you can choose to be, just choose what you truly like, if you didn’t like it, change it. 🙂
