Part of doing a PhD is that the project is yours and yours alone. There are many aspects that I have to do myself, but I wouldn’t say that means I work alone all the time. I am part of a team looking at different aspects of prosthetics, so whilst I do my part mainly alone I still have others doing similar things to talk to about my work and get feedback. Also I have my supervisor who is there to guide me too.

I’m the mechanical side of the workshop, I have a friend who works the Electronics side of things.

I have a new apprentice role just started in the mechanical side.

I’m doing my doctorate which is a project that I spend 4 years on it, to solve the problem. I’m responsible for everything in the project, so most of the research and coming up with ideas is done by me, but it doesnt mean that I don’t work with other people. for example, I have to keep very good communication with my supervisors, some PhD student have 1 supervisor, I have 4 😀 one industrial supervisor, 3 academic supervisors. I also have mentors. so I keep these people update about what I’m doing and if I need help I can go to them, they also suggest things to me, that I might have forgotten. I also have to work with other people from different sections in the company, for example if I want to test how strong my material is, I can’t just walk in to our test facilities and do it myself (although I know how to do it), there are people who that is their job to put the materials/coupons in the special machines and test them and provide me with the result. so there are loads of people that I need to communicate with in order to get things done.

Quite varied amount of people, but we all contribute to this type of work.
