Being grown up is a tough one, it’s very easy to spend too long working and not doing fun things!!!
You just have to balance things out.
As doing things like hobbies are a great way to relax. Also I cycle as a hobby so for me it’s a great time to think about those jobs I’m stuck on, I always have my best ideas peddling up a hill somewhere π
Well… i donβt have time to do all of them, but i get to do some of them. When you get older and have a job, you also have more responsibilities, you need to cook for yourself, do laundry, clean up the house and loads more π so you have to manage your time very well. But you have the weekends as well to do the things you like to do. I usually go to the gym straight after work at least 3 times per week, then come home cook, and then i get couple of hours to work on my things like learning Croatian. You can do your hobbies but you need to manage your time well, no time to waste really π
It’s hard, because as a grown up you have lots of things to do, especially if you have pets that depend on you!
You just have to manage your time on what you love and need to do.
For me, I make sure that I spend my free time looking after my rabbits as they need me, and that I stick to going to taekwondo training or climbing as much as I can, so I take my stuff to work with me so I can head to the hall or climbing gyms straight after.
If I’m tired after working, I just remind myself how much fun my hobbies are and how good it is when I’m there!
Sometimes with difficulty! I think it’s a case of making sure that when you’re at work, you work efficiently so that when you go home you don’t have to catch up in time for the next day. That means you have evenings and weekends free to do what you’d like!
Doing a PhD means my working hours are very flexible, so if I have a hobby at a certain time and need to leave a little early, I can make up for that the next day or on the weekend.
I think the key thing is to manage your time well and then you can fit in enough to keep happy without being too tired and getting behind on your work π
