I think it has a big impact! I went to an all girls school first and I think that encouraged me into STEM because there were no boys subjects or girls subjects. Everyone just did what they enjoyed. I had a great maths and D&T teacher so it inspired me to work hard.
I went to military sixth form college as I was to join the RAF as an engineer. Unfortunately I got injured so had to change career, but if it wasn’t for that I’d probably still be in the military.
I think it definitely can have an impact, but I also believe that at the end of the day, it is up to the person what they want to do, we are all humans and capable of making good or bad decisions. When I was at school, unfortunately, there was nothing like these sort of activities to give an opportunity to the students to find out more about different careers, so it was up to each person to go after it and find out what they would like to do. So i think we should be responsible for our career/life choices.
