Depends if you want to do a bachelors only or masters, or PhD. also some people take a placement year, where in their undergraduate degree (bachelor) they find a job in the industry in order to get some experience.

      In general,
      – bachelor of Engineering is 3 years without placement (4 with placement)
      – Masters is 1 year (in other countries it can be 2 years)
      – PhD can be between 3 to 4 years

You can be an engineer by just getting a bachelors degree, it just depends on your preferences on how specialise you want to get in a specific field.

The answer very much depends on what area of engineering you want to go into and how you want to get there.
You can do at apprenticeship from 16/18 which can last a variety of lengths of time (I don’t know much about this route).
If you choose the university route, then the minimum engineering degree length is 3 years, for your Bachelors. This will qualify you as an engineer. You can choose to do more in depth and specialised study in a 4th year called your Masters. IF you want to go into the research side of engineering, then you’ll most likely need to do a PhD on top of that which is another 3-4years or so.
All the timescales I’ve given are for the UK, they vary in other parts of the world. e.g. in the US, the Bachelors is 4 years, Masters is 2 years and PhDs up to 10!
