Well, technically I was a qualified engineer when I finished my degree in 2015…so 3.5-4 years ago now. But I feel like mentally, I’ve been an engineer for a lot longer than that! I was always trying to fix things and design solutions to challenges growing up. I did quite a few design and technology and engineering competitions at school. So really it depends on your definition of engineer!

you can be called an engineer after you get your undergraduate degree. basing it on that I’ve been an engineer for 4 years. I did like making stuff since I was very young and come up with crazy ideas, but I think to be a true engineer, you need at least 5-6 years of working in the industry. Because when you go to university you just learn the very basics of engineering, it’s only after that when you start to apply that knowledge that you gained in University in real life problems you become a true engineer. Sometimes you get people who did go to the university did an engineering or any other degree but when it comes to using it, they can’t.
