Yes, there most definitely are. Though, that answer would be the same no matter what career or topic you asked about I think! The challenges I face are sometimes getting feedback from the clinicians or amputees we’re working with, because they’re really busy too and it’s not their job to help me. They do it because they want to, but we can’t take time out of their jobs. A lot of the challenges I face are specific engineering ones, for instance I am writing code at the moment to create a web application to display my data and I can’t get it to work. So I have to figure out what the error is, find it, work out how to fix it and then actually fix it. That’s pretty much the description of an engineer though: we see problems, we find them and we create a solution to fix it!
You get challenges in very sort of job and in life in general, without challenges life would be boring, and no one would try to improve themselves. I also have challenges like everyone else. There are loads of things that need to be solved, which have not been solved previously by someone else, so it can be stressful sometimes as well, especially if you have tight deadlines. But I like the challenge. it makes me look forward to starting my day each morning because I know it’s going to be a different day. I don’t like to do the same job over and over again. 🙂
