I don’t think anyone has every asked me this question before…
I like the buildings that have a special feature: whether that’s something in the shape of the building or the materials used or something else that I can’t think of! Things like the Sydney Opera House would have taken incredible engineering and creative talent to build and make sure it stays up. Things like the Houses of Parliament are old but very pretty and created with a lot of details. If it’s interesting to look at, it prompts me to think about the engineering behind it! (Though that’s not to say that ugly buildings aren’t incredible bits of engineering!)
Whenever I see a very impressive building, I just appreciate the effort that has been put into the design of that building. There are many things that need to be considered whenever you design anything… where is it’s going to be built, what materials you can/n’t use, forces applied to it and many other things. But what fascinates me is the old structures that were built many years ago… I always wondered how did they manage to build those impressive buildings with none of the technology and computer programs that are available to us now… for example Taj Mahal, Persepolis, Colosseum and many more…
