There were a number of “heroes” that I looked up to, one of them being Frank Whittle, the inventor of the jet engine.
Snigger not, but Sherlock Holmes is one of my heroes, as he guides my thinking when I am working on a case “When you have eliminated all the impossibilities, then whatever is left, however improbable, is the truth.”
He has guided me to the correct conclusion in several very difficult cases.
Ray Mears (not an engineer but I love the outdoors)
But there have been people who I have worked with over the years I aspired to be like due to the amazing skill set, so I have always sought advice from my elders and people in my area of work
I didn’t really have anyone I looked up to when I was younger, unfortunately. I guess maybe my sister, because she is two years older than me and so I thought that she was what I should be. She had a group of friends, she played a musical instrument really well, she was really smart and did well at school. When I was young, I spent a lot of time copying here, but as I got older though, I realised that I was very different to my sister in terms of my interests and that I should try and find what I love.
There are loads of people in history that are inspirational, not necessary engineers or scientists only. I remember I used to read many biography books. They thought me about other people’s lives and difficulties, and how you can be successful if you just want something enough. some of the famous people that inspired: Stephen Hawking, Mozart, Einstein, Beethoven.
But I should mention that while I was growing up I looked up to my brother a lot since he is 10 years older than me and hence has more experience in life, I could always ask for his advice since he is also an engineer.
