When I finished each of my degrees I realised that I would like to learn more and broaden my knowledge. There are loads of things to learn, and when you start working you will still need to attend courses and training in order to be the best at what you do. So really you never stop learning 🙂
I chose to spend a lot of time at university because I enjoy it mainly. I love learning new things in a structured way and having access to equipment and knowledge that is brand new which can help me develop my skills.
I’ve known for a while now that I want to be an engineering researcher and the main way to achieve that is to spend time at university to do at least one degree and then a PhD. The PhD is the main “training” to be a researcher as we are still in a student role so given lots of guidance, but we also do a 3-4 year research project of our own choice.
I just really enjoyed what I learned at school, and university broadened on that too.
Like Mark said below, education or an apprenticeship, it’s just part of being an engineer.
I really like to learn, it became a passion to know more and I just kept going. I felt you never stop learning anyway.
But I realise I also did a lot of education, I think in a live chat I figured I did over 100 exams. Don’t do that if you can help it.
