I’m having problems with the website. What should I do?
How do I register and log in?
Parents and carers You can only register if your school is officially taking part in the I’m a Scientist and I’m an Engineer events. If so, you should use your school access link. This link should be in your weekly newsletter and, if your child is doing the events, it’s at the bottom of their own access card (ask them if they got one from school).
Type in the link to your browser, enter some details and then pick your own username and password. You can now log in and ask questions to engineers.
Engineers You don’t need to register as we’ve already done that for you and emailed you your log in details. Just enter your username (something like ‘firstnamelastname’ all in lower case) and the password.
I’ve forgotten my password, what do I do?
Don’t worry, there’s various things to try:-
Parents and Carers
1. We emailed a copy of your username and password when you registered. If you can, go back and check that email.
2. If you’ve deleted that email, or you can’t check it at the moment, then click on the forgotten password link and we can email it to you again.
3. If that doesn’t work (if, for example you haven’t given an email address) then email us at admin@iaeuk.ddev.site telling us your name and username. We’ll then email you a new password.
Engineers
1. We emailed a copy of your username and password. If you can, go back and check that email.
2. If you’ve deleted that email, or you can’t check it at the moment, then click on the forgotten password link and we can email it to you again.
3. If that doesn’t work then email us at admin@iaeuk.ddev.site telling us your name and username. We’ll then email you a new password.
How do I give feedback
All feedback is greatly appreciated. We take everything you tell us on board and this helps us to make the event even better each time. Positive comments are also very welcome and make us feel good about all the work that goes in.
You can give feedback by clicking here to contact us via email, phone or the form provided at this link.
We look forward to hearing from you.
What is this site about?
I’m an Engineer, Get me out of Here! is an online event where students and members of the public get to meet and interact with real engineers. It takes place online over a two week period.
For parents and carers, it’s a way to discover more about engineering as a career from real people who’ve been there. They can submit questions which the engineers will try to answer by the next day. Parents and carers can also attend live online MSN-style chats with the engineers each evening, where they ask questions, learn more about the engineers, and let engineers know their opinions.
For students, it’s an X Factor-style competition between the engineers, where students are the judges. Students submit questions which the engineers will try to answer by the next day. Students then have live online MSN-style chats with the engineers, where they ask questions, learn more about the engineers, and let engineers know their opinions. The students then vote to decide which engineer gets £500 to spend on engineering and science communication.
You can only talk on the site if you are one of the students, teachers, parents, carers or engineers who are taking part. And you can only vote if you are one of the students, but anyone can look around and read what is being said. Go on, have a look. From the main log in page, just pick a zone and browse around.
I’m an Engineer brings people together, gives young people a voice and teaches them about science and engineers in a fun, memorable and engaging way.
I’m an Engineer, Get me out of Here! is produced by Mangorolla CIC (copyright Gallomanor), specialists in helping organisations engage their communities.
How secure is this site?
Security is a top priority. Only students with registration cards can log in. And parents and carers can’t log in to student zones. We only send out registration cards to registered teachers who’ve been allocated classes. We also strictly moderate all live chats and questions to make sure that student identity and information is protected. If you’ve got any questions about security, please contact admin@iaeuk.ddev.site

Why hasn’t my question been answered yet?
This is a very common question:
Firstly check that it hasn’t been answered yet. Your answered questions should appear on your profile page. We will also email you to let you know if we have your email address, but sometimes our emails go into the spam folder.
Secondly, give it some time. Engineers are real people with jobs, they’re volunteering their own free time to answer questions. Engineers will answer all the questions they can, as quickly as they can, but it might take until the next day.
Also, if two people ask the same question then we’ll delete one but put both questioners’ names on the one we keep. So your name may be there but not your exact words.
If you think your question hasn’t been answered because of a technical problem, please email admin@iaeuk.ddev.site for help.
Will all my questions get answered?
Nearly all questions will be answered.
If you ask a rude question, moderators will take it out. Sometimes engineers get asked the same question many times: moderators will take out repeat questions and add your name to the first one.
Actually answering questions, of course, is up to the engineers.
