I don’t ‘make’ or ‘invent’ things as such, but I design solutions. I decided early on that I didn’t want to be a civil engineer in the construction side but I have had roles on site as designer. I planned and designed a new relief road which required river and road crossings and a new motorway junction to make sure that the road network could cope with 4000 new houses.
Sensible answer: I’m making an electric assisted bicycle at the moment and it’s really challenging and exciting. I think it’s the best thing I’ve ever made because it can have a really big affect on people’s lives. For the people who want to cycle but it’s just a bit too tiring/difficult/far this can really improve things for them.
Silly answer: Once I welded four kit kat chunkys into one huge four-bar kit kat for giants
I have worked on loads of projects which have improved railways around the world.
Modern engineering (and science) projects are much more complex than they used to be so it is very rarely that one individual “invents” a thing. It tends to be a group working together for a long time to make the best (or least bad) solution to a problem. I say least bad as sometimes there is not “brilliant” solution as the problems are so complex with such tight limits trhat perhaps not everyone involved can be “happy” with the result and we have to use the solutions which makes as few people “unhappy” as possible.
Sorry if this sounds difficult but modern design, engineering, technology and science is really difficult!
