      As part of my role I don’t really invent anything, but rather explore how others inventions can impact what we do, and seek to refine them and make them better.
      My current project is exploring ways to develop and refine in car interfaces and displays to make drivers more aware of the fuel they use in an effort to try to reduce emissions.

      I don’t really ‘invent’ anything either, I look to what we can do to reduce the impact of the development on a highway network and reduce the delay to everyone as well as what we might introduce to encourage people to walk, cycle or use other modes of transport.

      I’m currently working on the Brompton Electric, which is a fold-up bike with a motor in the front wheel, and gives you extra help when you pedal. I don’t invent whole products – we work as a big team to do that – but I’ll come up with little bits and pieces. The latest thing I have done is work out a way to extend the battery life and range of the bike, by making it assist more gently if the battery is getting really low.

      I can’t give too much detail because it’s going through a patent process but it’s a device that takes certain measurements related to static electricity to help us understand the risks of static sparks inside aircraft fuel tanks.

      I’m looking at hom sensors which are already on the trains and trackside can be used to predict failures before they happen. This will allow them to be fixed before they break so we cause fewer train delays and people get home from work quicker.
