• Question: What qualifications Do you need to become an engineer ?

      Hi Maisie, Another great question. To become an engineer you will usually require Maths and/or Science qualifications. You don’t necessarily need to go to University as some companies offer an Apprenticeship. This allows you to learn engineering while working at the same time.

      I have a degree in Engineering. To get that I also studied A levels and GCSEs.

      I then joined the graduate scheme where I moved around different projects and departments for three years gaining experience around the business.

      At Siemens we also have apprentices who have only got GCSEs and are studying for other qualifications at college 2 days a week. We look for people who are keen to learn and work well in teams. A maths GCSE is good as is experience outside school such as Scouts/Guides, Air Cadets and volunteer roles which shows you do more than just go to school.
