I would say lots of things are fun and exciting. I get to work on designing planes which seeks pretty cool to me! And we blow things up in a lab with lightning…
Like all jobs there are some boring aspects like admin and paperwork but it isn’t the main task.
I also enjoy doing things like speaking at conferences and going into schools to talk about my job.
I get to have a lot of fun at work. I build prototypes and often go for test rides on the bike to check them out. I have fun visiting supplier factories – I loved seeing a foundry pouring molten metal. The most exciting thing this week is yesterday I spent the morning in an anechoic chamber, covered in foam to deaden all the echoes. I’ve never been in one before and it was eerie but cool, it feels like your voice only travels a short distance from your mouth before it gets snatched away by the foam dampening it.
I would remember though that a lot of this is directly involved with my projects so there’s also hard work as part of it, but it takes you to interesting places.
Every project is different and I learn something new every time. That is what’s interesting. I also now get to be involved in the development of younger engineers and apprentices and I take a huge amount of pride in being able to help them.
